Marriage and bunnies (together at last)
I was afraid the wedding was going to be awkward, and for a moment it was (especially when my date, Mark, insinuated to the new head of the Lincoln Park Zoo’s retail operations that she got her job by knowing one of the zoo bigwigs and there was this really uncomfortable five minutes when she got really defensive and exclaimed things like, “I am totally qualified for my job!”). After that moment though, it was an unqualified blast! The bride and groom both flipped out when they saw me, there was free wine (copiously imbibed by all), and great music/dancing. Seriously, it was one of the best nights I’ve had since I’ve been back. Felt a bit dodgy this morning, but overall a small price to pay.
I’m reading ‘The Corrections,’ and as usual it’s affecting me marvelous much (like the nights when I couldn’t sleep whilst reading ‘The House of Leaves.’) Anyway, I was grouchy and nasty all day when I wasn’t reading the book and then fell asleep for a number of hours this evening. Unsurprisingly, the book is about nastiness and depression (at least so far); I should read books about rainbows and puppies instead. My nap seems to have helped, though I think I’m still a bit exhausted from my undoubtedly obscene dancing last night (Mark and I took it upon ourselves to entertain our tables of friends).
Finally, there is a family of rabbits that has taken up residence in my back yard. Well, we actually think that our rabbit Liam was more like a Lisa, and had herself some babies (as rabbits are want to do). The little ones are hilarious. At first they would bounce across the lawn like they’d been fired from a slingshot anytime they saw us. Now they just sit in the yard and munch the grass, giving us looks like, “Yeah? What the fuck you want?” They grow up so fast…
