Feeling More Free?
As part of Operation Together Forward, Baghdad’s security plan, trenches will be dug around the perimeter of the city (a circumference of 60 miles). Entries in and out of Baghdad will be limited to 28 roads, all of which will have checkpoints. Other routes into the city will be blocked.
[The plan] comes as more than 130 people were slain in two days — either killed in attacks or tortured and dumped in rivers or on the city’s streets.
Interior Ministry spokesman Brig. Abdul-Kareem Khalaf doesn’t know many specifics about the plan, including the width and depths of the trenches, but he “did say that there would be no concrete walls or razor wire.”
Yes. That would be restrictive. I’m sure the citizens of Baghdad are grateful that they’re “leav[ing] the Desert of Despotism for the Fertile Gardens of Liberty.”
