Wasting Time
President Bush doesn’t seem to agree with the Iraq Study Group’s recommendations for moving forward. Fine. Then he should really make some other kind of decision.
Rumsfeld was out November 8. Gates was confirmed on December 6, yet he will not take over duties next week?
If the policy in the Defense Department was so bad that you need to asign a new Secretary of Defense, shouldn’t you get them in there as soon as is humanly possible? Waiting until after you can have a nice party for Rummy doesn’t seem like the best way forward in Iraq.
And if the policy isn’t working, although according to Tony Snow that’s not what the ISG’s report says, then shouldn’t we get a new plan on the road now? Instead of, say, January? Because it seems as though lots and lots of people are dying in Iraq everyday, while the president hems and haws and tries to find a way out of this mess without listening to anyone but his own misguided self-righteousness.Sure, it “may even be criminal,” but, if Bush meets that Maker he’s always on about, I know it’s a sin.
