Turned Off
Last night, Gate and I attempted to play what should have been the best video game of all time. I am talking, of course, about the new Left Behind: Eternal Forces. What could be more fun than a game that leads you to convert or kill your enemies? Watching paint dry, as it turns out.
Given there were some awesome moments. Being told that the evil musicians will deplete our faith was nice. And learning to make one of your converted into a specialized “Builder” by selecting a “male friend” certainly made my jaw drop. (Now, granted, ladies really shouldn’t be lifting things.) Learning that you can upgrade your café to a food court was also pretty spectacular. But actually playing the game? Frustrating and unrewarding, though Gate did get some good praying in.
We didn’t even get to kill anyone, which, for the record, would have made our spirit points go down. After all, even when you’re killing for God, there’s still a cost. Luckily, you can remove it with a simple prayer. Now, I’m not much of a Catholic, but I think it takes at least a couple ‘Hail Marys” for a murder. Then again, I’d never even heard of the “Left Behind” series, but Andrew had, leaving me to think that this game wasn’t really designed for Catholics. I didn’t see a confessional or frankincense anywhere.
Those are usually telltale signs.
