Really?
The Academy Awards were predictably uninspiring, aside from Diane Keaton’s obvious intoxication and a small moment when I got all teary-eyed at the thought of a non-George W. Bush presidency. Here’s the thing, though - my biggest disappointment of the entire evening was a movie I didn’t even like that much (and not only because I lost my mittens).
Seriously, how could Children of Men have not received some technical awards - namely, cinematography and editing? The former, at least, should have been bestowed. Yes, yes, The Departed shot many people in the face, but we shouldn’t always look to the vice president for cultural cues. Children of Men had some seriously beautiful, not to mention technically difficult, sequences.
Oh well! Who cares?

Jerry cares!
I too was surprised that Children of Men did not get cinematography. I thought that was more of a lock, and far more deserving, than eyebrows’ directorial win. In fact I think Cuaron should have, at the least, been nominated for director. And United 93 should have won something.
On a side-note, I figured out how to subscribe to your rss and am glad I did.

Seriously, why on earth was Jerry Seinfeld
I haven’t seen United 93, but everyone who did says it should have won things. Ah well, at least all those Mexicans didn’t win as many awards as threatened. The terrorists may have won last night, but at least illegal immigrants didn’t. Our democracy is preserved.
Glad you’ve subscribed. I just wish Tourgasm was still on. Those were about my favorite blogs ever.

For the most part I didn’t really find the show very exciting–in fact a lot of the jokes were uninspiring. I was looking forward to ellen dancing around and being nicely quirky. Not so much. The whole show seemed really controlled and sterile. That guy backstage kept referring to surprises but I didn’t see any. Several bad jokes about sex and downey jr making fun of himself. Clint Eastwood as an interpreter? Huh.
I was pleasantly surprised that Melissa Etheridge won. I was certain they were going to give the award to this year’s recycled musical. I love that Etheridge song. Plus she kissed and emotionally thanked her wife on national television. That made my evening.
I want to see Westbank Story.

That was a strange Clint moment. I presume his remarks were prepared?
I also want to see West Bank Story. Looks awesome. And also a winner, which, of course, I like.
