Things I Forgot to Tell You
My program is a year and a half now instead of two years. I was talking to Chris today and realized that I’d not told him. If I haven’t jawed at Chris about it, it’s likely I told no one else as well. It took seven weeks of negotiations, and it was kind of a roller coaster, which is probably why I didn’t tell anyone. But I ultimately got a half a year knocked off - mostly, I think, because I’m annoying. The “but everybody else is doing it” defense seems to have actually worked. I have to overload the next two semesters - taking three classes instead of two, but small price to pay for being able to come back in town for the election. I’ll be done in early June 2008. (Please adjust your visiting schedules. Also, please create visiting schedules.)
Unless I really, really want to stay in Australia. Then I’ll just do that, and screw you all. What were your names again?
There was some other life event I meant to mention. It wasn’t my birthday, but I’ll throw that in there, too. Thanks for all the birthday wishes. My friends here gave me a very happy birthday, complete with awesome presents like a French press (or plunger as it’s known here), cilantro and lettuce plants for my garden, and High Fidelity for me to drool over watch when I miss Chicago! But the presents were so awesome, I don’t. What were your names again?
Oh, maybe the other thing was that I have completely forgotten how to write for an academic audience. My media analysis about Walter Reed is devolving into, “I mean, seriously, can you believe that shit?” I feel like that’s not going to go over as well in academia as it does in the blogosphere.
I mean, seriously, can you believe that shit?
Gold.

Brie,
You are slowing down on the posts and i’m very disappointed. I like getting a dose of Brie almost every morning. Since I don’t own a plunger, nothing wakes me up like on-point social and political commentary.
Shit, you did get the best gifts from your new friends. I can see why you would forget our names. When I come to Australia would you like to head off to Thailand for a bit together? I have a cousin who lives in Bangkok.
