Curling Up w/ Cliff
That’s what I get to do tonight. It’s been a long weekend - after two big nights, I somehow decided that it was more important to poke around on the internet for rental cars and argue about whether or not I remembered a conversation about clay chess pieces than do my work. As a result, I was up until 2am last night and then worked on my history paper’s references until about 12:30 this morning.
I did miss well over half of my crappiest class, so a plus on the whole.
But! I’m really thrilled because the Yarra Library called me to say that my Clifford Geertz book had come in! I’m overly excited about reading anthro again, especially from a theorist who hates theory as much as me! Bring on the cock fighting! No more media theory!
In baffling news, the State Library, which I thought was my savior, doesn’t allow you to check out books. There I stood with my arms full of books and my stupid accent, while the man behind he counter wearily informed me that I could only use the books in the library. That apparently means that there are only the little Yarra libraries for the entire city. Despite my constant bitching that Chicago feels the need to keep ten copies of a book at Harold Washington but none at the regional libraries (and I do think that’s dumb as hell), I have to say - way to have way, way more books Chicago.
It’s really frustrating not to be able to get my hands on a take-homeable copy of Film as a Social Practice, when I have that stupid book in my bookshelf… in my mother’s basement.
You know how I express my excitement about reading Geertz? By blogging about it instead of actually doing it! How incredibly stupid and irrational is that!
