Damn Spending Bill
Awesome. We’re passing the spending bill. And, wait, why is that?
Democrats said they did not relish the prospect of leaving Washington for a Memorial Day break — the second recess since the financing fight began — and leaving themselves vulnerable to White House attacks that they were again on vacation while the troops were wanting. That criticism seemed more politically threatening to them than the anger Democrats knew they would draw from the left by bowing to Mr. Bush.
Some lawmakers favored sending Mr. Bush another bill with a timetable for withdrawal and risking a second veto, the senior Democrats said. But they said they had questioned whether such a measure could pass the Senate a second time, raising the possibility that Congress would be left sitting on the bill and carrying the blame.
I agree with Keith Obermann. (Wait, while we’re on the topic can I just say that I don’t care for him that much? I almost always agree with his points, but hate his trumped-up attempts being the modern-day Edward R. Murrow that always just sound like pompous wind-baggery.) He had a special comment last night, and said the Democratic rank and file should get rid of Reid and Pelosi if they can’t handle the job. The
Bush is the one doing the vetoing! How is it that the Democrats are accepting being left with the bag on this one?!?! Send him the bill, and when he vetoes it – put the blame where it belongs, on the shoulders of the arrogant man-child who got us into this in the first place. The Democrats have the majority in the House. The House runs the money. How hard is this to explain? There have already been billions upon millions upon billions of dollars earmarked for this bullshit. Make Bush take some of the money spent on foolishness (or, say, find some of the billions that have gone missing) and buy the grunts some armored vehicles.
Mr. Emanuel said he intended to support the war money bill and other Democrats intend to join him in backing it, as well as a second proposal containing $17 billion in new domestic spending and a minimum-wage increase that Democrats are hailing as a major victory.
Wrong, Rahm. Yes, yes, we all want the minimum wage increase. But peddling it to us now like a dropped ice-cream cone just doesn’t cut it. Wasn’t this supposed to be done in the first 100 hours anyway? Getting the bill you promised to get passed in January passed in June shouldn’t be hailed as a ‘major victory’. I’d say instead its six months less of close to a living wage in families’ pockets.
And, Rahm? I’m only saying this because I’m utterly exhausted and was up til 2am last night interviewing and am now up til midnight transcribing – but get fucked. You’re supposed to be the pit bull of the Democratic Party. Bush is smirking again, and six years of that smirk is why you guys are in power. Bite the hand that hits you, for god’s sake.
Can the American people all chip in a quarter and get a sky writer for the Democrats? Iraq- Do Not Want. Jesus.
