Mukasey Vote
Mukasey was confirmed today, 53 to 40. That does… not add up to 100
Senators from Texas, Tennessee, Delaware, Conneticut, New York, Illinois and Arizona didn’t vote.
Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) didn’t vote for whatever reason. Which makes us wonder who the other five were. Stating the obvious, that’s: Biden, Dodd, Clinton, Obama and McCain.
Running for prez is important and all, but doing that whole senator thing? Kind of important, too. Unless you wanted to avoid an uncomfortable vote. Looking at you here, Clinton - who, if that whole NY patronage thing is correct, would have had to vote against the base for Mukasey. Also to McCain, whose own experience with torture would lead him to vote against anyone who might support it, again alienating the base.
Then again, with Robertson endorsing Giuliani, that ship has sailed a bit. In vaguely unrelated news, I was not expecting that endorsement.
