Bush: ‘Biggest Disappointment’
Tear-jerker, people. You’ve been warned.
Tucker Carlson once famously accused Jon Stewart of asking John Kerry softball questions. Stewart replied that his was a comedy show, and not up to the standards of, say, CNN. In an interview with the new Fox Business Network, President Bush exposed that FBN is a bit of a comedy channel as well.
Bush’s ‘biggest disappointment’, in case you’re wondering, is ‘Social Security reform, because that truly is the big deficit issue.’ The big deficit issues does not appear to be the Iraq War, which is, I believe, over one trillion now?
Other Bush answers (and I believe this one is my favorite):
But on non-defense discretionary spending, we actually reduced the amount of spending for the first time in history. Certainly the first time recently, anyway… And we’ve done all that [Afghanistan and Iraq] and reduced the deficit.
That’s a really interesting view of history. It’s kind of like how we invaded Iraq for the first time in history. Certainly the first time recently, anyway…
Also, despite the falling dollar, the president has a plan:
Well, we have a strong dollar policy, and it’s important for the world to know that. We also believe it’s important for the market to set the — to set the value of the dollar relative to other currencies.
…
BUSH: Well, all I can tell you is, is that the policy of this government is a strong dollar, and that we believe that the marketplace is the best place to set the exchange rates.QUESTION: So you’re satisfied with the exchange rates as they are now?
BUSH: Well, I am satisfied with the fact that we have a strong dollar policy and know that the market ought to be setting the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and other currencies.
That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense - how can you have a ’strong policy’ on something you want the market to regulate freely? - but if you say it enough times it sure does indicate to the friendly reporter that you’d like to move on!
And move on they do:
QUESTION: Iraq. Can you switch to Iraq now?.. The surge, is it working?
Follow up, Mr President, would you describe it as working or really working?
