Questions Around Bhutto’s Death
Benazir Bhutto’s quick burial has left many questions about the way she died and who assassinated her. Shockingly, no autopsy was performed. The hospital claims it was not requested by police or district authorities. The government says they’re looking into it.
This is rather disturbing since it appears that Ms. Bhutto didn’t die of a gunshot wound as first reported, but rather of some other kind of head wound. Various reports have it as resulting from shrapnel from the suicide bombing directly after or from ducking back into the car once the shooting began.
In such chaos, it seems odd to me that there would be so few protocols followed and a rush for burial. Muslims attempt to bury the body as soon as possible, but autopsies are allowed if necessary. Given her opposition to the government, you’d think they’d want to be overly careful with her body to make sure it was a clean cut case.
And it seems odd that the Pakistani government is sure they know who did it (a militant group apparnetly subcontracted by al-Qaeda) when no one is even sure how she died.
TPM seems to be following this pretty closely if you’re interested on keeping up as new details emerge.
