And since he's trying to look 'presidential', his credibility as a changemaker (HA) is totally based on weather this move works. As I've said before, americans will take an amoral, downright evil head of state who constantly makes the wrong decisions but just not one who's ineffective once those decisions have been made. So he's going to look like a double failure if he doesn't get the consensus and doesn't show up to the debates.
