Well, gosh, mister!
The NYT’s Patrick Healy writes today about what he calls Hillary Clinton’s ‘No-Press Express’. This is a clever pun on the two campaign buses used by John McCain and John Kerry, as Healy helpfully explains. The ‘No-Press’ part of the clever pun is based on the fact that HRC’s campaign has put the press cadre on a separate bus behind the campaign bus.
So who is riding with HRC?
Mrs. Clinton is traveling with two fellow blondes, former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack and Ruth Harkin, wife of Senator Tom Harkin, and a variety of other supporters.
Heh. That sounds like the beginning of fun movie, if you know what I mean… And I think you do.
But HRC is making herself available for some of the serious journalists’ most serious questions:
As Mrs. Clinton walked by carrying a plastic cup labeled “Pepsi,” I opted to skip Iran policy and get in her face with a slightly less gutsy question. Nodding at the dark liquid in her cup, I asked, “regular or diet?”
“Iced tea – unsweetened,” she said enthusiastically. “News flash!”
Thank god. But unsweetened tea isn’t going to go over well in the South. Let’s hope this expose didn’t ruin the Clinton campaign.
While I hope for Healy’s sake that this is his merely his snarky response to not getting to ride up with the big dogs, I simply can’t imagine why HRC and her campaign wouldn’t want the serious American press on the bus with them. They are, after all, good with clever puns - as well as pointing out coiffure, cleavage, and cackles. It’s just like the three c’s of diamond buying. And girls love diamonds.
In completely unrelated news - which was going to get a separate post, but let’s save interwebs space - this is what passes for a compliment from Colin Powell:
Powell remarked admiringly, as they emerged, that Rice dressed down the president’s lawyer [Gonzales] “in full Nurse Ratched mode,” a reference to the head nurse of the mental hospital in the 1975 film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
And maybe the most famous horrible bitch in all of literature. That’s sweet.
