HCC’s Vet Tech Program

Houston Community College’s Veterinary Technology program is a two-year Associates of Applied Science degree that will prepare you for a variety of career options in the field of veterinary medicine. The program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to take the National Veterinary Technician Exam.

What is a Vet Tech?

Vet techs are among the most important members of the animal healthcare team. They provide hands-on care and support to animals in need, whether they are sick, injured, or just need a routine checkup.

A vet tech’s job is both challenging and rewarding. It requires a special combination of science and compassion. Vet techs must have a deep understanding of animal anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to empathize with animal owners who are worried about their pets.

Vet techs work closely with veterinarians to provide the best possible care for animals. They may assist in surgeries, give vaccinations, take X-rays, administer medications, and much more. In addition to their clinical duties, vet techs may also be responsible for cleaning cages, stocking supplies, and educating pet owners about how to care for their animals.

If you are interested in a career as a vet tech, you will need to complete an accredited veterinary technology program. These programs typically take two years to complete and result in an Associate’s degree or certificate. Upon graduation, vet techs must pass a national exam to become licensed or certified in their state of practice.
