Beard began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Abilene Christian University from 1991 to 1999. He then served as an assistant coach at Seminole State College from 1999 to 2000 and McMurry University from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, Beard was hired as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico, where he served for two seasons.

In 2004, Beard returned to his alma mater, Abilene Christian, to serve as the head men’s basketball coach. He coached the Wildcats for three seasons, leading the team to a conference championship in his final season.

In 2007, Beard was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at Angelo State University. He coached the Rams for four seasons, leading the team to two conference championships and two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

In 2011, Beard was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. He coached the Trojans for five seasons, leading the team to two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances.

In 2016, Beard was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at Texas Tech University. He has led the Red Raiders to three NCAA Division I Tournament appearances and one NCAA Division I Final Four appearance.

Personal Life

Lugi Ferrara was born in1952 in Modena, Italy. He played professional soccer for AC Milan and FC Internazionale before becoming a coach. Ferrara began his coaching career in the Italian lower divisions before moving to the United States in 1999 to become an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame. In 2002, he became the head coach at Texas Tech University. Ferrara has a wife and two children.
